Dori, I'm done!!!

Well, David said all I had to do was send him a link to Google Docs and I would have completed the 2.0 project. I have been having an awful lot of fun doing this, but I guess it is time for me to conclude. I enjoyed learning about the different technologies that are out there and I am already thinking about how they can enhance our library presence, in house and on the web. The self-directed learning model is terrific and I am ready for Learning 3.0!

We're being talked about . . .

I periodically check the PVLD bookmarks on del.icio.us, the social bookmarking site, to monitor the activity being generated. The 40 Families Project has captured the imagination of several del.icio.us users: the site has been bookmarked by 10 of the site's participants. I recently noticed that the PVLD Learning 2.0 Project has been the topic of a blog entitled Tame The Web: Libraries and Technology by Michael Stephens. Take a look . . .

This Slide Show is Not Empty!

I created a "collage" slide show on Slide.com of images from the carved column by Gwynn Murrill--the focal point of the Peninsula Center Young Readers Department. However, if you are seeing the message "This slide show is empty" it is because it can only be viewed with Internet Explorer 7.0 or Firefox. Unfortunately the library computers operate on 6.0, but I'll leave the slide show up in case someone is able to view it.

Task #10

I had to play around with MySpace for a while before I got the hang of it. I deleted the first account I created because I didn't want my personal information out there. MySpace can be a great networking tool as long as one exercises a certain caution.

I am very impressed with Google Docs. It has tremendous potential for collaboration. Users can work simultaneously on a document from different locations! How great is that? But, there is one problem
--where's the WordArt!

Task # 7

I made a couple of edits to the PVLD entry on Wikipedia: I corrected a misspelling (they were put there on purpose, right?) and I added that residents of California can access our subscription databases by applying for a library card online.

It would be great if we could add some sort of wiki to our website. Perhaps when we get our new ILS we can create a wiki for patrons to leave comments about books they have read and library events they have enjoyed.

Who are these beautiful people? They thought they were headed out the door, but not quite! Anyone is a potential victim when I have my camera phone at the ready!

Task # 6

I don't have to do these in order, do I? I thought I would tackle the IM task next.

I think it would be fun to try out Instant Messaging at the reference desk. The reference librarians have already been practicing their IM skills. We could implement IM reference on a trial basis in house by starting with our study room occupants. Tent signs could be placed in the study rooms encouraging patrons to send us IM reference questions. Inviting Annex users and new WIFI applicants would provide us with additional test subjects. Patrons could add PVLD reference to their buddy lists for "instant" access to information. Initiating this service on a small scale would enable us to work out the bugs before launching it District wide. Just a thought . . .

Tasks # 1 & 2

I love learning about new technologies and applying those technologies to what we do here at the Palos Verdes Library District. I enjoyed posting PVLD bookmarks to del.icio.us and uploading Peninsula Center architectural photos to Flickr. We get prizes for participating in the Learning 2.0 Challenge? Wow! I have created a Yahoo email account and blog account. Now, on to the next task!
